Sorry I haven't posted in a while, but you know .... uni, training, working, eating etc
Anyway...
Today I wanna talk about Butter! Or lack of butter in the grocery stores.
The other day I was at my partners house and I noticed something named "Nuttlex" in the fridge.
I asked what it was, apparently it was a 'healthier' version of butter.
I was intrigued so checked the ingredients...
Ingredients: (All from vegetable sources), GM (Genetically Modified) Free Vegetable oils, water, salt, emulsifiers (471, sunflower lecithin), flavour, vitamins A, D2, E.
I was horrified! Its not actually Butter!!
It was just spreadable vegetable oil.
Lets just take a moment to list why vegetable oil is bad for you-
- Contain large amounts fats Omega-6, which are harmful in excess. When the balance of Omega-6s and Omega-3s in the cell is off, things can start to go terribly wrong.
- Imbalance of these fats can also cause damage to the intestines
- Vegetable Oils Are Loaded With Trans Fats. These fats are highly toxic and are associated with an increased risk of various diseases, like heart disease, cancer, diabetes and obesity
- Vegetable Oils Contribute to Inflammation. Polyunsaturated fats are highly unstable. They oxidize easily. That oxidation and inflammation is linked to all sorts of issues from cancer, heart disease, endrometriosis, PCOS, etc
- Many vegetable oils contain BHA and BHT (Butylated Hydroxyanisole and Butylated Hydroxytoluene). These artificial antioxidants keep the food from spoiling too quickly, but they have also been shown to produce potential cancer compounds in the body. And they have been linked to things like immune system issues, infertility, behavioral problems, and liver and kidney damage.
Butter- Ingredients: Pasteurised Cream (From Milk), Water
The thing is butter in moderation isn't even bad for you! Well lets just say its a lot better than smearing vegetable oil on your bread!
"Butter is a simple process that comes when cream separates from milk. This is a natural process that only takes a little patience. Once the cream and milk have separated, all you need to do is skim off the cream and shake it until it becomes butter"
Lets now discuss the benefits of ACTUAL butter-
- Butter is rich in the short and medium-chain fatty acids that deter tumor growth.
- Butter is high in cholesterol. This is a good thing! Our brains and nervous systems need cholesterol to develop properly.
- Improve your body’s immunity, and can reduce cancer cell growth and increase red blood cell production thanks to vitamins A and D.
- Increase bone and muscle strength due to the vitamin K and vitamin D,
- Contains sodium butyrate which has been linked to an improved response to insulin for patients with diabetes (found in cheese and butter)
- Contains conjugated linoleic acid which has been tied to tumor reduction in colorectal cancer and may even help fight breast cancer
- Some margarines are actually worse for you than butter due to high levels of trans fats.
- May also help fight cavities and may reverse tooth decay due to the fat-soluble vitamins – including calcium and vitamins A, D and K
In conclusion, make sure you look at the ingredient list the next time you pick up your bread and butter from the store!
Anddddd eat butter in moderation !
